One of the perks of being a mom is getting to hear the funny (and often sweet) things your kids say as they are figuring out the world around them. Here are a few things I've heard around my house recently...
One day on the way home from school we were discussing butterflies--the topic of the week during science class. The kids had learned that male butterflies are more beautiful than the females so that they can attract their attention. I happened to mention how humans seemed to do things the other way around--the girls try to make themselves pretty so the boys will notice them. Brennan, in his 8 year old wisdom proudly exclaimed, "Yeah, but I don't fall for that." Good boy.
Leah and I were talking about a friend who recently discovered that she was going to have a baby. She was curious how she knew that she was pregnant, so I told her that she had taken a test. Being a studious child, Leah was dying to know, "Well, how many questions were there?"
Jason and I were driving around town a while back and heard Chris Tomlin's version of Amazing Grace on the radio. I had no idea how closely he was listening until he asked, "Mommy, who found that man?" We had a little discussion about the man being lost and far away from God because of the bad things he did and God going out to find him and bring him back. A week or so later we heard the same song again. His reply was, "God found that man. Isn't that awesome?" Well said, son. Awesome, indeed.
